Quentin
Lee's "Drift" is a tender and acutely personal exploration
of the breakup of a three year relationship that culminates
in the filmmaker offering three possibilities of the path the
lovers' lives take afterward. By the time Lee has set up his
story and played out his different scenarios, he has left us
with a sense of what it's like for young people to discover
the possibilities, the limitations and unexpected twists and
turns of love ."Drift" is slender, intimate tale that
is thoughtful and revealing, nicely written and directed, and
acted. (excerpt from Kevin Thomas' review in Los Angeles
Times) |

There's a wonderfully delicate scene early in writer-director
Quentin Lee's Drift, in which a man sits on the edge
of a bed surreptitiously tying his shoes, preparing to leave
his sleeping lover for good. As he fumbles with his laces, his
face clouds with emotion and the room bristles with heartache.
It's such sharply observed moments that imbue the film with
heart... Like Run Lola Run, Drift circles back
on itself to present a trio of possible outcomes, but it's R.T.
Lee's sterling performance that riverts. (excerpt from Ernest
Hardy's review in L.A. Weekly) |

" Quentin
Lee's 'Drift' is one of the year's best films. An extraordinary
work of intellectual maturity and emotional depth, this no-budget
DV feature is a stunning celebration of the power of independent
cinema when wielded by those who know how to harness its full
potential." |

"It's
a quietly amazing film... The movie is full of intelligence
and sensitivity, and it offers insight into the human heart
that a lot of mainstream films won't approach." |

" Director
Quentin Lee's DRIFT provides a disarmingly honest take on trials
and merits of walking away." |
Metro Weekly

"Crunchy
on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. And it's sexy." |
The Washington Blade

"'Drift'
works brilliantly because we get so close to the characters,
and the story shatters expectations of a conventional ending
by giving three plausible trajectories for the collision course
of Ryan, Joel and Leo." |
Bay Area Reporter
|
|
"'Leešs
camera style is often slow and meditative, like the film's title,
which masterfully focuses the audience on the drama and the
individual actoršs performances... if you're in the mood for
a smart gay film that offers food for thought, 'Drift' is well-worth
a look." |

"'This
poetic story, filmed entirely in Digital Video, is about angst,
obsession, pain, and the self-destructive search for the perfect
soul mate." |
